From Spittal an der Drau via B98 road, approximately 10 km. Several settlements on the shoreline (Millstatt, Seeboden, Döbriach) offer permit sales. Excellent wind protection due to surrounding mountains.

Carinthia's second-largest lake (13.3 km²) and deepest (142 m), featuring fjord-like steep shorelines. Home to 21 fish species including lake trout (Reinanke), arctic char, pike, and perch.
